Philodendron Green Dragon - a variety with relatively fast upward growth, valued for its spectacular leaves, which tend to have great variability in shape and color, especially when the plant is young. It requires support for proper, upward development.
This variety has nectar-producing glands on the back of the leaves. The nectar serves to attract ants searching for food – thus, the plant gains chemical substances secreted by them, but also benefits from the aggressive way ant colonies defend their territory and food source, protecting the philodendron from other harmful insects.
Some specimens show slight variegation on some leaves (mottled variegation).
Other popular or commercial names known: Philodendron Nadja
Placement: Philodendron prefers a bright area, sheltered from direct sunlight. However, it will also tolerate a shadier spot. The foliage will become greener if placed in a more shaded area.
Watering: The soil should be neither too wet nor too dry. Water regularly, allowing the soil to dry partially between waterings. Make sure the pot has good drainage.
Soil: Philodendron prefers nutrient-rich soil that retains moisture well.
